Design and development of a oocyte retrieval simulator as a clinical training tool.

Objective: Design and develop a oocyte retrieval simulator as a clinical training tool in the Fertility service of Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad. Methods: A study was carried out under the modality of a feasible project, based on the design and elaboration of a oocyte retrieval simulator for the Clinical Training Program in Fertility and Assisted Human Reproduction at the Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad, which was evaluated by the specialists of the fertility service. Results: The results obtained from the questionnaires carried out to the 7 specialists of the fertility service were analyzed, 100% rated the appearance, design, and maneuverability of the equipment as excellent, likewise 100% considered the usefulness of the oocyte retrieval simulator to improve the operator's visual-manual coordination as excellent. All participants (100%) stated that the simulator is a useful instrument for training gynecologists in the area of fertility and also considered that the simulation is useful for the development of basic skills necessary for oocyte aspiration. Finally, all the specialists agreed that practical training with the simulator allows minimizing risks and possible complications. It was possible to design and develop a low-cost, accessible and ergonomic follicular aspiration simulator which proved to be a useful and valuable tool for practical training as specialists in fertility and assisted human reproduction.
