Understanding the hospital admission pattern, identifying the causes, hospital stay, and specialty consultations allows, from the perspective of resource optimization, for better planning and allocation of resources. Therefore, it was proposed to describe the admission behavior and hospital stay of patients hospitalized at Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad (CMDLT) in the period from July to September 2024. An observational, retrospective, descriptive study was conducted. The population consisted of patients hospitalized at CMDLT from July to September 2024, with a total sample of 399 patients. Data were extracted from the medical records of patients hospitalized at CMDLT. The results showed that the average age of the patients was 52 years, with a hospital stay of 4.7 days, and an average of approximately 1.1 interconsultations per patient. 56.6% of the patients were female, while 43.4% were male. The total admissions per month were July (32.6%), August (33.1%), and September (34.3%). Medical admissions predominated (70.9%) over surgical admissions (29.1%). The specialty with the highest number of admissions was Internal Medicine with 18.3% of patients. The most common reason for consultation was Fever (18.3%). The most frequent diagnosis for medical admissions was respiratory infections (21.5%), while for surgical admissions, abdominal surgery diagnoses (21.7%). Internal Medicine was the most consulted service with 25.2%.
