Abstract

Objective: It is important to consider Cameron's lesions within the differential diagnosis of causes of iron deficiency anemia secondary to gastrointestinal losses, since they are acutely and chronically associated with digestive bleeding, it is not unusual that this type of lesion is not taken in account, since they are a type of ulcers located at the diaphragmatic hiatus level and are generally associated with patients with hiatal hernias Conclusion: The prevalence of Cameron ulcers appears to be directly related to the size of the hernial hiatus. The probability of finding this pathology when the hiatal hernia is greater than 5cm is 10 to 20%. However, these lesions can be an incidental finding during an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy performed for other reasons, however the entity can go unnoticed and not be diagnosed, with the potential to produce complications such as digestive bleeding and chronic anemia of unknown origin, as is the case of the patient who only presented melenic evacuations on one occasion, presence of gastroesophageal reflux, referred two years ago, without previous studies, Therefore, it is very important to perform an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in those patients with a diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia of long evolution with treatment, which does not improve for the early diagnosis of this pathology.
