Abstract

Treatment of pulp necrosis in primary dentition is a challenge due to the anatomical considerations of the root canals of primary teeth and behaviour management of the pediatric patient. Positive results have been reported using lesion sterilization and tussue repair (LSTR) with a combination of three broad-spectrum antibiotics for the obturation of non-instrumented pulpotomy to preserve primary teeth. Objective: To describe the evolution of primary teeth with pulp necrosis treated with LSTR. Case presentation: Four pediatric patients are presented who attended due to pain and intraoral swelling. Clinical and radiographic examination diagnosed dentoalveolar abscess in primary molars. Treatment performed was pulpotomy with LSTR technique, and rehabilitation with glass ionomer or with preformed metal crown using the Hall technique. Conclusion: Treatment of primary molars with necrotic pulp can be successfully performed with the LSTR technique, resulting in the preservation of functions in the primary dentition.
