Abstract

Hemorrhoids are one of the most common diseases of the anorectal region. Objective: Determine the effectiveness of endoscopic treatment of internal hemorrhoid ligation with elastic band. Methods: A retrospective, observational, descriptive study of case series, cross-sectional was carried out in a sample made up of patients with hemorrhoidal disease treated endoscopically with an elastic band in the gastroenterology service, Centro Médico Docente la Trinidad, January 2002 to December. 2022. Results:  A total of 10 patients were evaluated whose average age was 63.5 ± 11.9 years, 80.0% were male, the main symptom was bleeding in 90.0% of the patients. cases. The immediate complications were pain in a female patient, which represents (50%) of the female patients studied, being evident the high number of male cases (100%) that did not present any complications. Regarding mediate complications, 3 male cases were found, of which 2 (25.0%) presented bleeding and one (12.5%) presented pruritus, in females no cases were reported. In the follow-up, the evolution of the patients was satisfactory, the range being wide from 2 months to 20 years after the hemorrhoidal disease was treated, 80.0% were asymptomatic at the time of the control evaluation and only 20.0% stated that they had improvement. Conclusion: Endoscopic ligation provides a high degree of symptom control, convenience for application, proving to be feasible, safe and effective for the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease
