Abstract

Objective: Determine the ultrasound and biochemical findings of thyroid function induced by GLP-1 receptor analogues in patients with Diabetes and/or Obesity without previous thyroid disease. Materials and methods: The study was carried out in the Endocrinology service of the Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad in the period January 2023 - August 2023, the sample initially consisted of 188 patients who had an indication for GLP-1RA for the management of T2D and obesity, that is an observational, descriptive, case series study, including patients ≥18 years of age, both sexes, BMI >30 kg/m² or > 27 kg/m² with comorbidities (T2D, hypertension, dyslipidemia), without previous thyroid disorders, with thyroid ultrasound and thyroid profile study from day 0 and who agreed to be part of the study; analyzing 12 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Results: No significant modifications were evident, however; 3 (25%) patients in the ultrasound control showed micronodules, mild structural changes and changes suggestive of thyroiditis. Conclusion: There was no alteration in the thyroid function despite the structural changes, our great limitation was the size of the sample to make more weighty conclusions, so we cannot correlate the use of GLP-1AR as a cause of these changes.
