Abstract

Introduction: The Solitary Bone Cyst is a Pseudotumoral lesion, which frequently appears in the metaphysis of long bones in the first decades of life, compromising the bone structure; for this reason, several treatment alternatives are presented for its resolution, taking into account the incidence of recurrences. Objective: To describe the management of the Solitary Bone Cyst in the patients who come to the consultation of the Musculoskeletal Tumors Unit of the Teaching Medical Center La Trinidad. Materials and methods: Review of medical records accompanied by the protocol of the Musculoskeletal Tumors Unit issued from January 2017 to October 2018. Results: We reviewed 18 cases with a diagnosis of Solitary Bone Cyst evaluated in the Musculoskeletal Tumor Unit. The incidence in terms of age, location, and radiological presentation coincided with the specialized literature, 10 patients were managed conservatively, 8 with surgical treatment, by filling with autograft and allograft, obtaining better results with autograft, decreasing the percentage of recurrence. Conclusions: The moment to perform the surgery should be when the lesion has distanced itself from the growth nucleus, and the best bone substitute is the autologous bone.
